Are you passionate about widening participation and excited by the opportunity to inspire the next generation of Materials Scientists? The Department of Materials is seeking a creative, ambitious and highly motivated Access and Outreach Manager to shape and lead our outreach, access and student recruitment activity.
This is an opportunity for someone with drive and vision to build on a strong existing programme while developing new ways to reach and inspire talented students from all backgrounds to consider studying Materials Science at Oxford at undergraduate and graduate level.
From school and college engagement to practical workshops, Open Days and residential programmes, you will lead a varied and ambitious programme of activity. Working with academics, researchers and students, you will develop engaging ways to introduce Materials Science to different audiences, widen participation and encourage more young people to explore the subject.
You will also recruit, develop and motivate our Student Ambassadors and build strong partnerships across Oxford and beyond.
About you: We are looking for an imaginative and proactive individual with a STEM degree or equivalent professional experience, who can combine strategic thinking with exceptional organisation and delivery. You will bring experience of outreach, widening participation, student recruitment or educational engagement, alongside the confidence to take ownership and make things happen.
You will be an excellent communicator and relationship-builder, able to engage and motivate academics, students and external partners, while managing complex projects and events to a consistently high standard. Above all, you will bring energy, creativity and a genuine commitment to widening participation, with the ambition to make a real contribution to the future of our access and outreach programme.
How to apply: You will be required to upload your CV and a supporting statement. Your supporting statement should list each of the essential and desirable selection criteria, as listed in the job description, and explain how you meet each one. CVs alone will not be considered. Please do not attach any manuscripts, papers, transcripts, mark sheets or certificates as these will not be considered as part of your application.
Only applications received online by 12.00 midday (BST) on Wednesday 2 September 2026 can be considered. Interviews will be held in Oxford on Wednesday 16 September 2026.
