The Nordic Brain Network (NBN, PI: Prof Miia Kivipelto) is part of the section of Clinical Geriatrics, Center for Alzheimer Research, NVS. The NBN is a multidisciplinary research team at KI, but team members are also present at KUH, Finland and UK. NBN research focus is on prevention, diagnosis and treatment of ADRD. The NBN conducts cutting edge biomedical, epidemiological, observational and qualitative research, as well as randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and implementation studies for dementia risk reduction, and is part of several international collaborations.
Prof Kivipelto team collaborates with other teams at NVS and the section of Clinical Geriatrics, including Prof Eric Westman team, which leads innovative research on neuroimaging in relation to ADRD. Co-led and participated projects included large national and international initiatives, including AD-RIDDLE, ACCESS-AD, TraCeDem, World-Wide FINGERS. Prof Kivipelto has also launched the Brain Health Clinic (KUH Solna) which is part of the growing multinational network on Brain Health Services (BHS) for the Prevention of Cognitive Impairment and Dementia (ICOPAD).
Overall NBN aim is to develop and promote implementation of risk reduction approaches for ADRD, based on combination of non-pharmacological and pharmacological interventions, within the framework of precision medicine.
This Assistant Professor position offers a unique opportunity to build a strong academic profile – primarily by developing your independence as a researcher, while also gaining valuable teaching and pedagogical experience. You will be expected to develop and lead a research group in the field of ADRD risk reduction, including expanding the BHS collaborative work, and contributing in coordinating and executing tasks related to ongoing projects with aligned scopes. This research leverages large-scale population-based and clinical-based observational data, as well as RCTs, and advanced causal inference methods to develop and validate tools for early ADRD risk detection, and evaluation of safety and effectiveness of risk reduction multidomain interventions, to inform evidence-based clinical and public health decision-making.
Some teaching in the department's undergraduate and/or graduate programs is expected. You will be expected to explore opportunities for research collaboration within the department and to contribute to the academic environment of the department.
The employment as Assistant Professor is time limited for 6 years with the right to apply for promotion to Senior Lecturer. The candidate is expected to secure competitive funding for a significant part of the employment period.
Those eligible for employment as an Assistant Professor are individuals who have been awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence. Preference should be given to those who were awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence no more than seven years, normally, prior to the expiry of the application period for the position as assistant professor.
Those who have been awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence earlier may however be considered if special grounds exist.
