Assistant Professor in Psychiatric Pharmacoepidemiology

Karolinska Institutet, Department of Clinical Neuroscience invites applications for a research position as Assistant professor focused on psychiatric pharmacoepidemiology. We seek you who excel in utilizing register data for research that will further our understanding on safety and effectiveness of pharmacotherapies of psychiatric disorders. An interdisciplinary research approach, applying novel methods such as AI/machine-learning combining additional types of data (e.g. clinical notes, genomics and neuroimaging) with register and survey data as well as clinical experience on psychiatric disorders are highly encouraged. The department provides access to high-quality, individually linked register and survey data on the Swedish population, drawing on, among other resources, national research infrastructures, such as REWHARD (Swedish National Infrastructures of Research Data | Karolinska Institutet). You will be free to choose your own research topic and will be organizationally affiliated with the Division of Insurance medicine within CNS. An interdisciplinary research approach that includes several of the department's divisions – particularly the Centre for Psychiatry Research- is highly encouraged.

This Assistant Professor position offers excellent opportunities to build a strong academic profile – primarily by developing your independence as a researcher, while also gaining valuable teaching and pedagogical experience. Your responsibility is to conduct psychiatric pharmacoepidemiological research, using innovative methods utilizing register and survey data. You will work closely with interdisciplinary teams to translate insights from large-scale data into impactful clinical knowledge. The role also involves obtaining external research funding, contributing to undergraduate and doctoral teaching, supervising PhD students and postdoctoral researchers, and participating in national and international collaborations.

To be eligible for an appointment as Assistant Professor, you must demonstrate good scientific skills according to KI's eligibility criteria as follows:

• A PhD (or equivalent degree) in a relevant subject area
• At least two peer-reviewed original scientific publications as first or last author, in addition to the doctoral thesis

Priority is given to those who were awarded a PhD (or attained equivalent competence) no more than seven years prior to the expiry of the deadline for the application. Those who have been awarded a doctoral degree or attained equivalent research competence earlier will also be considered if there are special circumstances for absence from research (deductible time), such as: parental leave, long-term illness, positions of trust in trade union organizations or mandatory service in total defence.

For this call, exceptions are made from all pedagogical requirements specified in the Instructions for the Appointment Procedure for teachers at Karolnska Institutet. However, you must complete three weeks of higher education pedagogical courses in accordance with the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions' recommendations, no later than two years after starting your employment as an Assistant Professor (unless you can certify that you have completed equivalent training before starting the position).

Particularly meritorious is:

• the scientific quality, originality, and feasibility of your research plan within the relevant subject area
• documented experience in research environments outside KI, with special consideration given to international research experience
• expertise in advanced psychiatric pharmacoepidemiological methods using register-based data
• demonstrated experience and effectiveness in interdisciplinary team environments
• a documented capacity to attract funding
