The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of British Columbia's Vancouver campus invites applications for a full-time position at the rank of assistant professor (tenure-track) or associate professor (tenure-track or tenured) in the area of computer engineering, with a research focus on computing systems.
We interpret computing systems broadly and welcome applications from candidates working in areas including, but not limited to: computer architecture; digital and integrated systems; embedded and cyber-physical systems; hardware/software co-design; operating and runtime systems; compilers; distributed, cloud, and edge systems; networking; data-intensive systems and storage; and hardware and systems security. We particularly welcome candidates whose work crosses traditional boundaries within computer engineering or connects computing systems with emerging application domains.
Responsibilities include developing an independent, internationally recognized research program that attracts external research support and complements and extends the department's existing strengths; teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in computer engineering; supervising graduate and undergraduate students; and contributing service to the department, university, and the profession.
Required qualifications include a doctoral degree in computer engineering, computer science, or a closely related field, completed by the anticipated start date; a record of research excellence, or clear potential to establish an internationally recognized research program; evidence of strong teaching ability or demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching; evidence of service to the academic and professional community; and eligibility to obtain registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Limited Licence with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC) within five years of appointment.
Applications must be submitted online. Applicants should submit a cover letter, current curriculum vitae, research statement, teaching statement, diversity statement, and the names and contact information of four referees.
Equity and diversity are essential to academic excellence. An open and diverse community fosters the inclusion of voices that have been underrepresented or discouraged. We encourage applications from members of groups that have been marginalized on any grounds enumerated under the BC Human Rights Code.
