The Department of Biomedical Engineering at The Johns Hopkins University invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions in Biomedical Data Science. Candidates applying at the ranks of Associate Professor and Professor should refer to the specific link provided. We seek exceptional candidates whose research lies at the interface of artificial intelligence, data science, and biomedical engineering, and who will strengthen and expand our core expertise in biomedical data science. Areas of particular interest include but are not limited to algorithms for large-scale biomedical data analysis, computational biomedical imaging, computational omics, foundation models, biomarker discovery, data-driven methods in regenerative medicine, computational hypothesis generation, causal and statistical inference for biomedical systems, and large language or sequence modeling in biomedical problems.
Successful candidates will have a record of excellence in developing and applying innovative AI and machine learning methods that yield new insights or solutions to challenges in medicine and healthcare, epidemiology, or public health. Our search supports the large-scale expansion of the Whiting School of Engineering, which builds on our 22 tenure-track faculty hires in AI last year to add to a total of 150 new tenure-track professors at all ranks, including 30 Bloomberg Distinguished Professorships and 80 faculty positions that will be part of the new Data Science and AI Institute. This expansion includes new buildings and extensive computational resources that will establish Johns Hopkins as one of the largest and leading engineering schools with a top AI research program. The expansion will support the department, ranked #1 in the nation, in growing its biomedical data science focus area. The department currently has 54 full-time tenure track faculty members, 38 research and 10 teaching faculty members, 299 PhD students, over 260 master's students, and over 420 undergraduate students.
The Department is conducting a broad search and is committed to identifying candidates who, through their research, teaching, and service, will contribute to the excellence of the academic community. We welcome candidates who are poised to address grand challenges in biomedical data science and can work across disciplines to solve societal challenges.
The expected salary range for this position is: Assistant Professors $150k – $200k for 12-month FTE. The reference salary range is based on Johns Hopkins University's good faith at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to the candidate may vary and will based on factors including, but not limited to, the experience and qualification of the candidate – e.g., years in rank, training, field, discipline, other work experience, and other similar factors; geographic location; internal equity; external market conditions; and other factors as reasonably determined by the University.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in a relevant field, and will be expected to establish a strong, independent, multidisciplinary, and internationally recognized research program. Commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels is required.
Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a research statement, a teaching statement, and (optionally) three recent publications. Candidates should submit three to five letters of reference.
For full consideration, completed applications must be received by December 5, 2025.
