The Department of Physiology, Development and Neuroscience is seeking a highly motivated and proactive Research Laboratory Technician to support the research activities of Professor Amanda Sferruzzi-Perri's group. The Sferruzzi-Perri Laboratory investigates how genetic and environmental factors influence fetal development, pregnancy, and long-term health of both the mother and offspring. The group focuses on understanding the role of the placenta, the organ that develops alongside the fetus and regulates nutrient transport and hormonal support during pregnancy, as a key mediator of these outcomes.
The laboratory uses mouse models involving genetic and environmental manipulations, combined with a broad range of whole-body, tissue, cellular, and molecular approaches. Complementary studies using cell and organoid cultures, human pregnancy samples, and clinical data aim to identify underlying mechanisms and support translation to human health.
The role holder will provide both technical expertise and operational leadership to support the group's expanding research programme. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys both hands-on experimental work and laboratory leadership, and who thrives in a collaborative, mission-driven research environment.
Candidates should be educated to BSc level or higher in a life sciences discipline and have prior experience in an academic or industrial research setting. You will have experience in managing animal colonies as well as histology and molecular biology techniques. You will also have a strong interest in supporting developmental, pregnancy, and women's health research.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 18 months in the first instance.
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment and a security check.
