The laboratory of Dr. Dimitrios Davalos at the Department of Neurosciences of the Lerner Research Institute of Cleveland Clinic is looking to recruit highly motivated postdoctoral fellows to pursue exciting and funded projects aimed to study how changes in microglial biology affect the onset and progression of neurological disease. We seek to understand how microglia influence neuronal function/health, and ultimately animal behavior and disease progression. We are particularly interested in mechanisms through which peripheral immune signals and/or cells enter the Central Nervous System across the Blood-Brain Barrier and cause microglial activation, and neuronal functional or structural disruption as disease develops.
We employ mouse models to study neurological diseases like Multiple Sclerosis, Alzheimer’s Disease, Stroke, Glioblastoma, and Alcohol Use Disorder. We combine elegant pharmacological and cell type-specific genetic manipulations with in vivo imaging using two-photon microscopy, single cell genomics and classic histological, molecular and cellular analyses. We also take advantage of our access to human tissue through our Cleveland Clinic colleagues and perform parallel analyses in human tissue collected post-mortem, and directly from surgical resections.
We are a vibrant and diverse team of young scientists and are open to applicants of every background, ethnicity, gender, religion and orientation. Our lab is housed in one of America’s largest (and best funded) Research Institutes with outstanding scientists, cutting edge technologies and core facilities, and training opportunities. Cleveland offers exceptional quality of life (see Cleveland’s Symphony, Art, Science, and Natural History museums, Theater District, music and food scene, as well as great professional sports, numerous parks and water activities) at a very affordable cost of living. Excellent housing opportunities and public schools make living in Cleveland an attractive option for individuals and families alike.
Review of applicants will start immediately and continue until the positions are filled. Interested individuals should submit the following materials to Dimitrios Davalos (email@example.com):
1) CV, including a list of publications and contact information for 3 references
2) Cover letter describing previous research, research interests, career goals, and expected start date.
Reach out and we will be happy to tell you more about our projects and about joining our team for your next career step!
