Clinical Associate Professor and Honorary Clinical Consultant in Paediatric Dentistry

We seek to recruit an experienced Associate Professor/Honorary Consultant to provide academic leadership in the field of Paediatric Dentistry. The post-holder is responsible to the Head of Paediatric Dentistry and accountable to the Institute Director, Professor Dave Spratt. The post-holder will play a key role in delivering high-quality postgraduate education and clinical training in Paediatric Dentistry. Responsibilities include teaching, research supervision and supervising complex clinical procedures for students on the three year full-time professional doctorate programme (DDent). In addition, the post-holder will be Programme director for the distance-learning MSc and lead on providing teaching and developing materials, contribute to curriculum and assessment processes, and support the coordination and administration of postgraduate programmes to ensure alignment with Institute and regulatory requirements. The role also involves active participation in research within the Paediatric Dentistry unit and collaboration with colleagues to maintain clinical governance and educational excellence. The post-holder should have the experience and capability to inspire and lead advanced postgraduate education, research, and clinical care, including didactic teaching and clinical supervision of NHS and university trainees. They will be expected to contribute to the ongoing enhancement of the Paediatric Dentistry programmes and to undertake and supervise Masters and DDent research of internationally excellent quality, fostering an environment in which postgraduate students develop strong clinical and academic competence. The post holder will be expected to establish and co-ordinate the delivery of Continued Professional Development allied to Paediatric Dentistry. They will be expected to comply with both UCL and NHS regulations in line with clinical research and the delivery of clinical care and will be expected to adhere to the governance requirements such that quality standards are met. The post-holder will also be expected to work closely with the Clinical Lead of the allied NHS department to ensure that all patient-related protocols and guidelines relating to patient care are achieved and maintained. The post-holder must be an experienced clinician and educator in Paediatric Dentistry, committed to delivering high-quality postgraduate education and clinical care. Candidates must hold a PhD-level qualification allied to Paediatric Dentistry, be fully registered with the UK General Dental Council, and be on the GDC Specialist List in Paediatric Dentistry at the time of appointment. They should have substantial experience in postgraduate teaching, strong communication skills, and the ability to inspire and support learners. A sound understanding of clinical research methodology is essential, along with a demonstrable track record of original research publications and grant funding in Paediatric Dentistry. The post-holder will be required to have a Disclosure and Barring Service Assessment.
