Dr. Lingbo Zhang’s Lab at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory focuses on both basic science and translational medicine of hematologic malignancies. The research of the Lab centers on normal and malignant stem and progenitor cells in the hematopoietic system and decodes the role of metabolites, including micronutrients and neurotransmitters, in the tumor microenvironment and their genetic effectors in regulating hematologic malignancies.
There are two fully funded postdoctoral fellowships available to investigate the roles of these critical metabolites and their genetic effectors in hematopoietic malignancies and develop novel therapeutic strategies.
The Lab utilizes a combination of CRISPR/Cas functional genomics and metabolomics as well as optogenetics and fiber photometry approaches to systematically uncover the critical metabolites and their genetic effectors, including receptors and metabolic enzymes, to reveal mechanistic insights of and identify key drug targets for hematologic malignancies. The ultimate goal is to understand how environmental signals such as diets and nervous system activities modulate blood cell development and cancers. Based on these basic mechanistic insights, the Lab is building innovative therapeutics to treat hematopoietic malignancies that are currently without effective therapeutic options.
Education: Applicants should hold a PhD in biomedical sciences
Experience/Skills: Ideal candidates should have strong research backgrounds in molecular and cellular biology, animal model and cancer research, and experiences with flow cytometry and metabolomics analysis or optogenetics and fiber photometry..
