The Cyster lab at UCSF has a Junior Specialist opportunity. Under direct supervision and training, the Junior Specialist will be responsible for laboratory research duties. This position will be involved in experiments including molecular biology, mouse handling and genotyping, bacterial culture, mammalian cell culture, preparing tissues from mice for flow cytometric analysis, preparing and cutting tissue sections and performing microscopy, and performing other duties such as helping with lab supplies ordering and organization.
We are looking for a candidate excited about molecular and immunological approaches, who is eager to learn and comfortable with mechanistic thinking. The candidate will work with a team of scientists to help genotype mice, help prepare lymphoid cells and tissue for analysis, culture cells and perform flow cytometric analyses. General lab managerial tasks such as cataloging and ordering reagents are part of the position, and other duties as assigned. In addition, independent research projects may be available separate from the above described duties. The Cyster lab is a highly collaborative space that is pushing the cutting edge of immunology research.
Required Qualifications: • Baccalaureate degree or equivalent degree or at least four years of research experience. • Demonstrated ability to work in a team and independently. • Demonstrated ability to take initiative in designing experiments and solving problems. • Excellent communication skills and strong ability to work harmoniously and respectfully with others. • Strong organizational skills including being able to follow a busy schedule. • Attention to detail. • Ability to multitask effectively. • Excellent demonstrated record of accomplishment. • Ability to adhere to all campus safety policies. • Knowledge of and experience with basic mammalian molecular and cell biology processes and techniques. • Able to work with mice.
Preferred Qualifications: • Experience working with mice (handling, genotyping, tissue collection). • Experience with flow cytometry. • Experience with immunofluorescence microscopy. • Experience with performing lab work with extreme accuracy and attention to detail. • Training in immunology theory and techniques.
