The University of Texas at Austin is undertaking a once-in-a-generation transformation to build a world-class academic health system in Central Texas. Anchored by Dell Medical School and the growing UT Dell Medicine clinical enterprise, this bold initiative is redefining how academic medicine delivers care, accelerates discovery, educates the next generation of healthcare leaders, and improves health across the communities we serve.
As UT Dell Medicine continues to expand its clinical enterprise and advances toward the opening of a new hospital in 2030, the organization is making foundational decisions that will shape its future – from clinical service line development and market positioning to partnerships, digital health, AI-enabled care, and the design of a fully integrated academic medical center.
Within this rapidly evolving environment, UT Dell Medicine is seeking a Deputy Chief Strategy Officer to serve as the primary operational and internal counterpart to the Chief Strategy Officer. Reporting directly to the Chief Strategy Officer, the Deputy Chief Strategy Officer will translate enterprise vision into executable strategy, lead the day-to-day work of the Strategy & Planning Office, and ensure the organization's most important strategic priorities move from concept to implementation with rigor, discipline, and measurable results.
This leader will serve as the internal anchor of the strategy function, enabling the Chief Strategy Officer to maintain a strong focus on enterprise vision, digital health and AI innovation, external partnerships, and national thought leadership while ensuring the organization has the internal strategy capability required to deliver on its ambitions.
At UT Dell Medicine and Dell Medical School, we are not simply building a new hospital – we are creating the next generation of academic medicine in Central Texas.
This is an opportunity to join the organization at a defining point in its evolution and help shape the strategy, clinical portfolio, partnerships, and operating infrastructure of an academic health system being built for the future.

What You'll Do
Who You Are
The ideal candidate is a highly strategic, analytically rigorous, and operationally grounded healthcare leader who is equally comfortable helping shape enterprise strategy and doing the hands-on work required to move it forward.
You understand the complexities of healthcare delivery and academic medicine and can translate broad vision into disciplined execution. You bring strong financial and analytical capabilities, sound judgment, and the ability to synthesize complex information into clear recommendations for senior executives.
You are energized by building rather than maintaining. You are comfortable operating in an environment where systems, processes, programs, and organizational infrastructure are still being developed and where the answer may not yet exist.
You are also an effective and collaborative “number two” – confident enough to provide independent perspective and challenge assumptions while remaining highly aligned with the Chief Strategy Officer and broader executive team. You bring low ego, intellectual curiosity, adaptability, and the interpersonal steadiness necessary to build trust across clinical, academic, administrative, and external stakeholder groups.
