The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) is seeking applicants for the position of Director of Orthotics & Prosthetics Research within the UCSF Orthotics & Prosthetics Center. The selected candidate will be appointed at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank in the In Residence faculty series.
This position represents a unique opportunity for a scholar-leader to build and lead a nationally recognized orthotics and prosthetics (O&P) research program at UCSF that advances patient care, strengthens evidence for the profession, and helps develop the next generation of O&P investigators.
The Director of Orthotics & Prosthetics Research will lead and coordinate O&P research activities across UCSF and collaborate closely with the UCSF Orthotics & Prosthetics Center, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, and interdisciplinary clinical and research teams. The selected candidate will work closely with departmental and O&P leadership to expand UCSF's research presence and scholarly impact in orthotics and prosthetics. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a productive research program focused on advancing orthotics and prosthetics care, outcomes, and innovation, while helping build and expand O&P research infrastructure and collaborative translational research initiatives.
Areas of research interest may include biomechanics, gait analysis, osseointegration, rehabilitation science, pediatric orthotics and prosthetics, outcomes research, and translational science. Experience collaborating with orthopedic surgeons, O&P clinicians, physiatrists, engineers, physical therapists, and other multidisciplinary specialists is highly desirable. The selected candidate will also be expected to mentor students, trainees, and early-career investigators, participate in teaching activities, contribute to peer-reviewed scholarship and extramural funding efforts, and support the long-term growth and mentorship of future orthotics and prosthetics investigators at UCSF.

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5. The minimum base salary range for this position is $154,700. This position is governed by the UC Health Sciences Compensation Plan, APM-670 which allows for eligibility for negotiated additional compensation. As such, the total negotiated salary (including base and negotiated components) can be significantly higher and can range up to $900,000 depending on individual qualifications, clinical productivity, and other factors assessed at the time of offer.
