The position is placed at the Division of Solid-State Physics at the Department of Physics, a division with around 100 employees where extensive research is carried out centered on various aspects of nanophysics, ranging from materials science to bio- and quantum physics to various applications. The division is a central part of NanoLund, Lund University's large interdisciplinary research center on nanoscience and nanotechnology. The research center includes also Lund Nano Lab, a central and shared cleanroom facility for the production of materials and components at the nanoscale. The Division has a strong commitment to undergraduate education, not least in the Master's programme “Engineering Nanoscience” at LTH. This position is part of a research group consisting of three doctoral students with individual projects where collaboration leads to good group development. You will join a research group that conducts experimental research in quantum topoelectronics. We aim to develop novel quantum devices, including qubits, by harnessing electronic correlations and topology in two-dimensional materials. As a doctoral student, you are both admitted as a student and employed at Lund University. As a doctoral student, you will be trained in a scientific approach. This PhD project focuses on the DC characterization and microwave-frequency investigation of anyonic excitations in graphene-based quantum devices. The doctoral student will fabricate ultrahigh-quality van der Waals heterostructures in Lund Nano Lab and study them using low-temperature electronic and microwave measurements. The student will also contribute to establishing a new experimental laboratory, including infrastructure for van der Waals device fabrication and the installation of a dilution refrigerator reaching temperatures below 10 mK, equipped with a 14 T magnet and both DC and RF measurement lines. The position provides extensive hands-on experience in nanofabrication, cryogenic measurement techniques, microwave electronics, data analysis, and the physics of quantum devices. The student will be an important member of a collaborative research team and will work with research groups at Lund University and leading international institutions. The project combines fundamental quantum physics with a technology-oriented approach to developing new types of nanoelectronic and quantum devices.
You will primarily devote yourself to your doctoral programme, which includes participation in research projects as well as third cycle courses, seminars and conferences. The purpose of the PhD project is to build anyons arrays and to operate them as qubits. You will work independently as well as in close collaboration with the other partners in the project. The employment is a fixed-term employment at full time, starting as agreed, preferrably starting from January 2027. Third cycle studies at LTH consist of full-time studies for 4 years.
