KTH Royal Institute of Technology, School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
Third-cycle subject: Electrical Engineering
The project is funded by the Swedish Research Council and the Wallenberg Centre for Quantum Technology (WACQT) and addresses fundamental questions in quantum information science, with applications to quantum communication, quantum computation, and other quantum information-processing tasks. Its overarching goal is to determine the ultimate limits on the resources required and the performance in such tasks, while also developing explicit protocols that achieve or approach these limits. A central challenge is to express these limits in mathematically tractable and computationally accessible forms. Ideas and methods from quantum Shannon theory will be especially useful, alongside tools from entanglement theory and the broader mathematical foundations of quantum information. The project will investigate fundamental information-theoretic quantities including entropy, mutual information, channel capacities, and measures of entanglement, and how they behave when quantum systems or information-processing resources are combined. Questions of additivity and nonadditivity constitute an important part of this broader research program.
Supervision: Professor Mikael Skoglund
