1 PhD and 1 Technical Assistant position – RNA localization regulation and function
The research team of Gabrijela Dumbović is inviting applications for a motivated Experimental or Computational PhD student (m/f/d, 65%, E13 TV-G-U) and a Technical Assistant (m/f/d, 100%, E09a TV-G-U) to join our project on TERT RNA biology. For more information about our work, please visit our lab website: www.gdumboviclab.org.
Project overview
This project focuses on the regulation of subcellular localization of Telomerase Reverse Transcriptase RNA (TERT) RNA. It builds on our previous work (https://doi.org/10.1073/pnas.1908275116 & https://doi.org/10.1038/s41467-021-23221-w) as well as unpublished studies on how intron retention affects TERT RNA localization and telomerase activity.
The PhD student and technical assistant will work closely together, combining single-molecule and live-cell RNA imaging, RNA–protein interaction mapping, and CRISPR-based genome editing to determine how TERT RNA is regulated and how its localization influences telomerase function in iPS cells. The ultimate goal is to derive general principles that govern intron retention and RNA localization. Applicants from both experimental and computational backgrounds are welcome.
Your role
The successful candidate will apply targeted and live-cell single-molecule RNA imaging methods to track RNA dynamics at high resolution. The candidate will investigate RNA-protein interactions and structural elements that regulate RNA localization and function, and use genome editing to manipulate regulatory motifs and assess function using experimental and computational approaches.
Candidate profile
We are looking for candidates who are passionate about molecular biology and eager to contribute to innovative research. A keen interest in RNA biology is highly desirable, background in computational biology is a plus.
We offer
Our laboratory offers a stimulating and collaborative working environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure and unique professional career development opportunities. We are a part of the CPI Cluster of Excellence, TRR267 on non-coding RNAs in the cardiovascular system, and SCALE with numerous opportunities to engage with researchers working in diverse fields. We value diversity and encourage applicants from all backgrounds to apply.
How to apply
Interested candidates should send their cover letter and CV as a single PDF to Dr. Gabrijela Dumbovic by email to [Please click the Apply button for the link or address].
