PhD position – Development of RNA-targeting approaches
The research team of Gabrijela Dumbović invites applications for a motivated PhD student (m/f/d, 65%, E13 TV-G-U) to join a project focused on developing new RNA-targeting approaches as a part of the newly funded TRR440 smART: specific mRNA targeting. For more information about our work, please visit our lab website: www.gdumboviclab.org.
Project overview
RNA processing and localization are central determinants of gene regulation. Our lab investigates how RNA processing contributes to where RNAs are positioned within the cell and how this affects RNA function. The project will combine RNA biology, molecular tool development, microscopy and quantitative analysis to establish approaches for modulating RNA localization and function.
The PhD student will determine the mechanisms regulating RNA localization using well characterized models and develop RNA-targeting methods with the purpose of altering subcellular RNA distribution. Applicants from both experimental and computational backgrounds are welcome.
Your role
The successful candidate will apply imaging and quantitative approaches to investigate RNA-protein interactions and structural elements that regulate RNA localization and function, as well as use ASO-based RNA perturbation to affect RNA localization and function. The applicant will work closely with collaborators, presenting results and contributing to publications.
Candidate profile
We are looking for candidates who are highly motivated and passionate about developing new approaches in RNA biology. The ideal candidate has a Master’s degree or equivalent in molecular biology, or a related discipline; a strong interest in RNA biology, molecular tool development, microscopy or quantitative biology; experience with cell culture, RNA methods, fluorescence microscopy, computational data analysis; and the motivation to work independently while contributing to a friendly and collaborative team.
We offer
Our laboratory offers a stimulating and collaborative environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure and professional development opportunities. We are a part a strong RNA biology and cardiovascular research environment within the CPI cluster of excellence, TRR267 on non-coding RNAs in the cardiovascular system, TRR440 on specific mRNA targeting and SCALE cluster of excellence, with numerous opportunities to engage with researchers working in diverse fields. We encourage applicants from all backgrounds to apply.
How to apply
Interested candidates should send their cover letter and CV as a single PDF to Dr. Gabrijela Dumbović by email to [Please click the Apply button for the link or address].
