The Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt am Main is one of the largest universities in Germany with around 41,000 students and with about 5,800 employees. The Institute for Theoretical Physics of Goethe-University Frankfurt invites applications for the following vacancy of a
PhD-student position (m/f/d)
(E 13 TV-G-U, part-time).
The contract starts at the earliest possible date to 30.06.2026. The salary grade is based on the job characteristics of the collective agreement applicable to Goethe University (TV-G-U).
The PhD position will involve research under Prof. Falko Pientka and is being partially funded by the DFG through CRC TRR 288 “Elastic Tuning and Response of Electronic Quantum Phases of Matter“. The PhD position will be part of project B09 “Dynamics of strongly coupled electron-phonon systems” led by Prof. Falko Pientka.
The research will be in the area of quantum condensed matter theory with particular focus on collective modes in many-body quantum systems, e.g., transport properties or nonequilibrium dynamics. The research will be carried out using various analytical and numerical techniques.
The applicant should have a Master’s degree in physics and very good knowledge of quantum mechanics and statistical physics. The candidate will be offered the opportunity to do self-directed research and teaching.
