Junior, Assistant, or Associate Specialist – Jura Lab

The position will focus on investigating the molecular mechanisms that regulate cellular lipid homeostasis, with particular emphasis on sphingolipid and cholesterol biology. Duties will include production and purification of lipid-binding proteins, including members of the CNPY/SAPLIP family and bacterially expressed fluorescent lipid-binding probes; characterization of protein–lipid interactions using biophysical and biochemical approaches, including fluorescence polarization and in vitro lipid-binding assays; and analysis and interpretation of lipid mass spectrometry data. The position will also involve mammalian cell culture, quantitative immunofluorescence-based analysis of protein localization and intracellular trafficking, and flow cytometry data collection and analysis. The work requires extensive expertise in the biosynthesis, trafficking, and cellular homeostasis of sphingolipids and cholesterol, as well as their regulation by lipid-binding proteins.

In addition, the position will include laboratory management responsibilities, including ordering and maintaining laboratory supplies, coordinating shipping and receiving, ensuring compliance with Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) requirements, and maintaining records to ensure that all laboratory personnel have completed required safety and compliance training.

Required Qualifications:

• Specialists appointed at the Junior rank must possess a Baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience.
• Specialists appointed at the Assistant rank must possess a Master's degree or a baccalaureate degree with 3 or more years of research experience.
• Specialist appointed at the Associate rank must possess a Master's degree (or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of experience in the relevant specialization.
• Demonstrated expertise in the expression and purification of CNPY/SAPLIP-family lipid-binding proteins and bacterially expressed fluorescent lipid-binding probes; fluorescence polarization and in vitro lipid-binding assays; lipid mass spectrometry data analysis; mammalian cell culture; quantitative immunofluorescence-based analysis of protein localization and trafficking; and flow cytometry.
• Expert knowledge of sphingolipid and cholesterol biosynthesis, trafficking, and cellular homeostasis is required.
• Experience managing laboratory operations, including purchasing, shipping and receiving, EH&S compliance, and personnel safety training, is also required.
