We are seeking a Lecturer (Teaching) to provide maternity cover for a period of 9 months; duties will include the delivery of a Level 6 (3rd year) module GEOL0057 Geodynamics and Global Tectonics. The module is aimed at getting an advanced understanding of the key physical processes driving plate tectonics and related phenomena. The lectures are organised around the derivation of simple models and how they can be used to explain observations. Mathematics are used throughout the course but the objective is to be able to understand equations, their dimensions and key characteristics rather than being able to re-derive them from first principles.
Practical sessions involve group research projects, group oral presentations and clinics, group debates, as well as exercises to learn and apply widely used research software, e.g. fluid dynamics and plate reconstruction software.
Most of the materials required for teaching this module are already prepared and we are hoping there will be a handover period in place (tbc).
You will have a PhD in a relevant area of Earth Sciences. In addition, strong practical and theoretical background in geodynamics and global tectonics, and experience of designing and developing teaching materials are essential.
As well as the exciting opportunities this role presents, we also offer some great benefits some of which are below:
