The Mallah Laboratory at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join our neuroimmunology research program. Using experimental models of traumatic brain injury (TBI) alongside microscopy, immune profiling, and behavioral analysis, the lab investigates the neuroimmune interactions that occur after TBI, with the goal of developing therapeutic approaches. The successful candidate will contribute to funded projects, working closely with the Principal Investigator on experimental design, execution, and data analysis toward publications and grant-supported research.
What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate holds a PhD in biology, preferably in neuroscience, neuroimmunology, or immunology, with hands-on experience in immunofluorescence/microscopy, flow cytometry, and small-animal behavioral assays. Rodent surgical experience, especially TBI or other cranial procedures, is a strong plus.
The Lab, the Institution, the City
The Mallah Lab is newly established and growing, working at the intersection of immunology and neuroscience, using traumatic brain injury as a model to understand how immune activation shapes neurological outcomes and recovery. As a member of the lab, you’ll help shape its research direction, working closely with the PI on a day-to-day basis while taking ownership of your own experiments and projects. MUSC gives you the infrastructure of a major academic medical center: strong core facilities, an active Pharmacology and Immunology department, and constant proximity to the clinical side of the questions the lab studies. And Charleston makes the rest of life easy: it’s walkable, historic, close to the water, with a food scene that punches well above its size, and scenery that makes it easy to spend time outdoors year-round.
