Supercomputers help us to find solutions to major social and scientific challenges. The Jülich Supercomputer Centre (JSC) operates one of the most advanced supercomputing infrastructures for scientific applications in Europe – including JUPITER, the first exascale supercomputer in Europe. Together with its partners, Deutschen Elektronensynchrotron (DESY, Hamburg), Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung (GSI, Darmstadt) and Goethe-Universität Frankfurt, Forschungszentrum Jülich operates the John von Neumann Institute for Computing (NIC). The NIC's mission is to design, promote and apply innovative computing strategies for the scientific community in Germany and Europe. In addition to cutting-edge high-performance computing, the NIC's core innovation and research areas include, artificial intelligence methods and data-driven modelling, energy-efficient technologies, and disruptive technologies such as quantum computing and neuromorphic computing.
The NIC offers computing resources of its partners to its user communities via an excellence-based and comparative peer-review process. To organize and carry out its tasks, a NIC Coordination Office is located at the Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC) at Forschungszentrum Jülich.
