Associate Research Scientist (research faculty), Postdoctoral Research Associate and Research Technician positions are available in the laboratory of Dr. Nelli Mnatsakanyan, in the Department of Cellular and Molecular Physiology at The Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in Hershey, PA.
Mnatsakanyan lab studies energy metabolism, mitochondrial function, and mitochondria-mediated cell death mechanisms in neurodegenerative diseases.
The successful candidate will work on a multidisciplinary research project combining single-particle cryo-electron microscopy, cryo-electron tomography and electrophysiology (patch-clamp and planar lipid bilayer recordings) to investigate the role of ATP synthase leak channel and mitochondrial dysfunction in Alzheimer’s disease pathogenesis.
The candidate will join a vibrant community of scientists and will have access to the outstanding Core Facilities and Research Resources within the Penn State College of Medicine, including newly established state-of-the-art cryo-EM facility housing a 300 kV Titan Krios microscope, equipped with K3 direct electron detector, a Volta phase plate and Gatan energy filter.
Requirements
Qualified candidates for the Associate Research Scientist and Postdoctoral positions should have a Ph.D. in biophysics, biochemistry, neuroscience, or related fields. Experience in one of the following areas is preferred: mitochondrial physiology, membrane protein biochemistry/biophysics, structural biology (cryo-EM/cryo-ET), ion channel electrophysiology. These are NIH-funded positions that require timely completion of the research outlined in the grant proposal. The salary will be commensurate with the experience and skill of the candidate.
