What does the early universe look like? What sound does a black hole collision make? Big questions require big instruments to measure the faintest signals, like the Einstein Telescope (ET). Here, even the smallest disturbances influence the signal quality and an active, low-latency compensation is proposed. Hence, specialized electronics and FPGA-based data processing are essential for active mitigation of Newtonian noise.
The Peter Grünberg Institute – Integrated Computing Architectures (PGI-4/ICA) is an interdisciplinary research institute developing next-generation computing systems, including integrated circuits and processing architectures that go beyond conventional CMOS-based technologies. Our work focuses on scalable hardware for Quantum Computing and Neuromorphic Computing, bridging novel devices with real-world applications.
In the context of a BMFTR-funded project preparing the Einstein Telescope, we are looking for a Doctoral Researcher to develop a neuromorphic computing framework for noise mitigation.
In addition to completing your PhD degree, your primary objective is to establish a real-time processing architecture that improves gravitational wave detection sensitivity. By utilizing embedded FPGA-based intelligence near seismic sensor arrays, you will explore methods to maximize prediction performance while minimizing data transmission and latency.
Your key tasks include:
We encourage you to apply even if you do not fulfill all listed requirements.
In addition to exciting tasks and a collegial working environment, we offer you much more.
We welcome applications from people with diverse backgrounds, e.g. in terms of age, gender, disability, sexual orientation / identity, and social, ethnic and religious origin. A diverse and inclusive working environment with equal opportunities in which everyone can realize their potential is important to us.
