Uppsala University, Disciplinary Domain Of Science And Technology, Faculty Of Chemistry, Department Of Chemistry – Ångström Laboratory
The Department of Chemistry – Ångström conducts research and education in the chemistry field. The department has more than 270 employees and has a turnover of 300 million SEK. At the department's six programs, we conduct very successful research of a high international standard. We have a large number of externally funded research projects, often with international cooperation and we see continued good growth in our subject area. The department has education assignments in engineering programs and master's programs.
Duties
This doctoral project will focus on fundamental and applied experimental studies aimed at increasing the understanding of the mechanisms occurring in modern lithium- and sodium-ion batteries. Both laboratory-fabricated batteries and commercial cells will be studied, and the work will be carried out in collaboration with researchers at Linköping University and the company Batixt AB. More specifically, new anode and cathode materials will be investigated from a fundamental perspective, and studies of the mechanisms underlying the aging of commercial batteries are also relevant.
The experimental investigations will primarily be based on electrochemistry, as well as electrochemistry in combination with diffraction and spectroscopy techniques. Experiments at synchrotron facilities may also be included. Of particular interest are more advanced electrochemical techniques based on alternating currents and current and voltage pulses for real-time evaluation of batteries.
The doctoral position will be placed within the Structural Chemistry research program at the Department of Chemistry – Ångström Laboratory, and also within the framework of the Ångström Advanced Battery Centre. The environment is characterized by broad collaboration between researchers with different areas of expertise, and research is conducted across many aspects of energy storage in batteries. Collaborations with industry and international partners are very common.
Requirements
To meet the entry requirements for doctoral studies, you must
The candidate must have:
Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, motivation, drive and independence, and how the applicant's experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.
Additional qualifications
Theoretical and experimental experience in electrochemistry is considered an advantage.
