We are looking for a Philanthropy Writer with experience translating complex health concepts to join the Philanthropy Writing Team within Advancement. The team comprises five specialist writers (including the Head of Philanthropy Writing) and forms part of the Campaign Proposition Team, working alongside colleagues who develop compelling, strategically aligned campaign propositions for philanthropic audiences.
As Philanthropy Writer, you will create and curate compelling content to support the cultivation process with UCL's highest‑value donors, helping to secure significant gifts for UCL's life‑changing work. You will do this in partnership with Development (our high‑value fundraising teams) and with leading UCL academics and researchers, as well as working closely with colleagues in Alumni and Campaign Engagement and Donor Experience.
You will develop off-the-shelf resources, such as cases for support, and bespoke materials, including tailored proposals, concept notes, and discussion papers in response to the specific needs and interests of prospective donors. These materials will be on a vast range of subjects, from the ethical use of artificial intelligence to neuroscience to scholarships that support educational equity. You will also support fundraisers to confidently shape their own content through the development of information and tools.
Ultimately, you will write to help inspire others to change the world for the better with UCL. That could be someone giving their very first philanthropic gift, one of the world's most well-established philanthropists or anyone else who simply wants to make a difference.
Inspired by contributing to a major campaign that will shape UCL's next 200 years, you will bring experience producing persuasive and creative written content that works for high‑value supporters. You will be skilled at researching, synthesizing, presenting and editing information for fundraising materials, using meticulous attention to detail and creativity to bring complex, particularly health‑related, concepts to life accurately and compellingly.
You will understand evolving approaches to design and have experience using creative applications such as Adobe InDesign and Shorthand. Your excellent interpersonal skills will give you the sensitivity and confidence to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders. Flexible and resilient, you will be able to manage multiple projects and respond positively to changing priorities and last‑minute requests. You will be committed to creating a supportive work environment and to advancing equality, diversity and inclusion.
We are pleased to accept applications from individuals who possess transferable skills and experience drawn from sectors outside of Higher Education.
