The Inflammation biology group is looking for a highly motivated Post-Doctoral Scientist to pursue cutting-edge discovery and impactful translational work in immunology and chronic inflammatory diseases. The successful candidate will initiate an independent research project to investigate pathogenic mechanisms of inflammatory disorders, characterize the MOAs of novel therapeutics, and spearhead therapeutic target identification.
The expectation is that this work will result in novel contributions to our understanding of human disease pathogenesis and high-quality publications in top tier scientific journals. The selected candidate will work in a highly collaborative environment at Gilead through a 3 year term. It also provides access to world class research facilities and the opportunity to leverage expertise and resources across multiple functional areas at Gilead.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will initiate and lead independent research projects to investigate the mechanism of action of bispecific T-cell engagers on immune cell dynamics and disease efficacy in preclinical models of autoimmunity.
Furthermore, the candidate will spearhead discovery efforts for the identification of novel therapeutic targets and determine the role of cell-cell interactions in regulating disease pathogenesis. Under the guidance of the Postdoc mentor, the postdoctoral scientist will design, conduct, and analyze in vitro and in vivo experiments to drive research towards a publication in a top-tier journal. The selected candidate will work in a highly collaborative environment at Gilead through a 3-year fixed term.
Basic Qualifications:
Ph.D. in immunology, molecular biology, neuroscience, virology, or a related field. At least one first author paper published or accepted in a peer-reviewed journal. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills and strong organizational skills are required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates with a strong background and hands-on experience in molecular and/or cellular immunology, inflammatory diseases, or immune modulation strategies. Experience with mouse pre-clinical models of disease is preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with mouse handling experience and proficiency with in-vivo techniques such as immunizations, in-life procedures, and tissue harvesting. Demonstrates proficiency in wet lab immunology techniques, including development and implementation of in-vitro cell based functional assays, transfection / transduction of primary cells and cell lines, multi-color flow cytometry, ELISA, Luminex/MSD assays, and other immunoassays. Familiarity with primary immune cell culture (B cell / T cell stimulation, BMDM differentiation) is strongly preferred. Expertise in molecular biology, microscopy, CRISPR/Cas9, and omics-based approaches is an advantage. The individual will have demonstrable skills and experience in leading focused hypothesis-driven biological research, as exemplified by quality publications. The successful candidate must have demonstrated success in working in a cross-functional and highly collaborative team environment, and to communicate clearly and effectively in both verbally and in writing to a variety of audiences.
