Postdoc In Ai And Digital Modelling Of Electric Power Systems

Do you want to build the models, data and computing environments needed to analyse and control the power system of the future? The Division of Electric Power and Energy Systems is looking for a postdoc in digital modelling and AI for electric power systems. You will work in a research project centred on AI, software development and data modelling of electric power systems, in which a national digital twin of the Swedish power system is being built, with open datasets, catalogues of information models and interfaces, and demonstrators for data exchange between grid companies, flexible customers, aggregators and the electricity market. The work is carried out in close collaboration with industry and grid operators.

The main part of the work consists of developing methods and supporting software for analysis, modelling, optimisation and control of electric power systems from a system perspective. The position includes:

• building a development environment with databases and computing platforms for developing and training AI models for power system applications
• independently carrying out the tasks for which KTH is responsible in the projects: method and software development, reporting and documentation
• publishing the results scientifically and presenting them to the project partners
• following developments in the field

Some supervision of students may occur. The work may involve handling data on the Swedish power grid that is subject to protective security legislation.

Requirements:

• A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.
• The subject area of the doctoral degree must be electric power engineering or a closely related field, with a focus on modelling, machine learning or optimisation at the power system level.
• Documented experience of software development for the analysis of large datasets, for example in Python or Julia.
• Good command of Swedish and English, spoken and written, as this will be required in day-to-day work.

Preferred qualifications:

• A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline
• Documented research expertise in the field, evidenced by publications.
• Good knowledge of open source solutions in the field, for example pandapower, PowerSystemBlocks, Grid2Op and/or CIM-based tools.
• Experience of using and developing data and computing platforms: databases, containerisation, version control and cloud or HPC resources.
• Experience of information models and protocols for data exchange in the power system, for example CIM, OpenADR or OCPP.
• Experience of collaboration with industry or grid operators in applied research.
• Teaching experience, for example supervision of students.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal skills.
