Postdoc in Kidney Receptor Biology

The Department of Biomedicine at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as Postdoc in the field of kidney receptor biology as per 1 November 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a fixed-term full-time position for 22 months.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic research group studying the role of receptor-mediated endocytosis in kidney proximal tubule cells and its contribution to proteinuria-induced kidney injury. Our research integrates molecular and cellular biology, mouse models, advanced imaging, and omics technologies to uncover mechanisms driving chronic kidney disease and identify new therapeutic strategies. The position provides outstanding opportunities for scientific development in renal physiology, endocytic receptor biology, epithelial cell biology, and translational kidney research, supported by an international and collaborative research environment.

Your job responsibilities as Postdoc in kidney receptor biology will primarily be research-based but may also involve teaching assignments. You will contribute to the development of the department through research of high international quality. In your daily work, you will work closely with colleagues on your project, where you will receive supervision and guidance.

Your main tasks will include:

• Conduct independent research of high international quality and publish findings in leading peer-reviewed journals.
• Design, plan, and perform in vivo experiments using transgenic mouse models, including administration of experimental treatments and collection of blood, urine, and tissue samples.
• Conduct in vitro studies using kidney cell culture models to investigate receptor–ligand interactions and endocytic pathways.
• Perform and optimize molecular, biochemical, and histological techniques, including immunohistochemistry, ELISA, Western blotting, qRT-PCR, and related methodologies.
• Analyze, interpret, and present experimental data at group meetings, scientific conferences, and in publications.
• Contribute to the supervision and mentoring of Bachelor's and Master's students and participate in the daily activities of the research group.
• Contribute to maintaining a collaborative, innovative, and inclusive research environment.

You will report to the Group leader, Associate Professor Kathrin Weyer.

You have academic qualifications at PhD level, preferably within medicine, molecular medicine, molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, physiology, or a related discipline. We expect that you to have a strong interest in kidney physiology, receptor biology, or epithelial cell biology;

• have hands-on experience with molecular and cellular biology techniques, such as cell culture, Western blotting, qRT-PCR, immunohistochemistry, and ELISA;
• have experience working with experimental mouse models and are comfortable performing in vivo studies (FELASA-B certification or an equivalent qualification is an advantage);
• have a documented track record of scientific publications or demonstrate strong potential to publish in international peer-reviewed journals;
• have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and are able to work independently while contributing effectively to collaborative research projects.

Experience with one or more of the following will be considered an advantage:

• RNA sequencing or other omics technologies, including data analysis;
• advanced microscopy or image analysis;
• renal physiology or receptor-mediated endocytosis.
