The Theory of Chiral Quantum Materials Group at the Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics invites applications for a postdoc position in theoretical and computational quantum materials.
The position is funded through the DFG Cluster of Excellence Center for Chiral Electronics and is available from October 1st, 2026.
The project explores how chirality, magnetism, and band topology shape electronic states, spin and orbital transport, and emergent functionalities in quantum materials. The successful candidate will use theoretical and computational approaches to investigate chiral and topological materials, quantum transport, and molecule-material interfaces. Particular research topics include spin and orbital textures, chirality-dependent quantum transport, interfacial charge transfer, and enantioselective molecular adsorption.
The project combines first-principles electronic-structure calculations, Wannier-based modeling, symmetry analysis, quantum-transport theory, and surface and interface calculations. Close collaboration with experimental and theoretical groups within the Center for Chiral Electronics and with partner groups across Europe is envisioned.
Joining the Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics offers a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of scientific research. We provide a stimulating environment with numerous benefits, including:
The Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics gives priority to applications from severely disabled candidates with equivalent qualifications. Furthermore, we strive to increase the proportion of female employees and therefore specifically encourage women to apply. Interested candidates should apply by August 3rd, 2026 with a CV (including a list of publications) and contact details of two referees via our application portal. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until positions are filled, and early submissions will be given priority.
