The successful applicant will take part in the Atlantic herring genome project where we use whole genome sequence data and functional studies to reveal molecular mechanisms underlying ecological adaptation and evolution. The applicant will also take part in the chicken genome project where the aim is to reveal genetic changes explaining phenotypic changes during domestication.
The successful applicant will be responsible for advanced bioinformatic analysis of whole genome sequence data (both short and long reads), RNAseq data, DNA methylation, single cell seq data and ATAC-seq data. The duties will include population genetics analysis, including detection of signals of selection based on whole genome sequence data from thousands of individuals; take part in improving genome assemblies as well as generating high quality functional annotations of our genomes of interest.
A PhD in genomics or a related area. To qualify for a Postdoctoral fellow position, candidates must possess a doctoral degree or a foreign degree that is considered equivalent to a doctoral degree. Primarily, those who graduated no more than three years ago should be considered. When calculating the three-year time frame, the application deadline serves as the starting point, however, periods of e.g. parental or sick leave may be deducted from this three-year period.
Extensive experience in handling large scale sequence and genetic data is an absolute requirement. Competence in computational biology, population genetics and/or genome assembly is required. The applicant must have the ability to work independently and be able to collaborate with other members of the group as well as with national and international partners. Very good knowledge of English, both spoken and written, is required. We place great importance on personal suitability and are looking for highly creative and motivated employees who appreciate working in a team. A strong publication track record is also required.
When selecting among eligible applicants, special emphasis will be placed on scientific proficiency. In this recruitment, the university will primarily consider those who, after an overall assessment of documented qualifications, competence and skills, are deemed to have the best qualities to carry out and develop current research tasks and contribute to a positive development of the activities.
The position is fixed-term for two years according to the central collective agreement. The position is full-time. Starting date by agreement. Location: Uppsala, Sweden.
