Postdoctoral Fellow in Human-Centered AI and Data Visualization at Department of Computer Science, Aarhus University

The Department of Computer Science at Aarhus University (Denmark) invites applications for a 18-month Postdoctoral Research Fellow position focused on Human-Centered AI and Data Visualization. The position is funded by the Center for Anytime Anywhere Analytics (CA3).

This is a full-time, on-site role located in Aarhus for a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Computer Science, Aarhus University. The position is limited to 18 months (1.5 years), with an expected start date of April 1, 2027. The postdoctoral fellow will conduct research at the intersection of human-centered artificial intelligence and data visualization, funded by a Villum Investigator grant and situated within the Center for Anytime Anywhere Analytics (CA3). The focus of the position is on visualization dashboards, generative AI agents for data analysis, and the design of interactive systems that keep human analysts in control of AI-assisted sensemaking.

Responsibilities

• Conduct research on agentic visualization: generative AI agents that collaborate with human analysts in exploratory data analysis, dashboard authoring, and visual sensemaking.
• Design, implement, and evaluate visualization dashboards and visual analytics systems for real-world analytical workflows.
• Collaborate with faculty members and fellow researchers on novel software tools and platforms for human-centered AI and visualization.
• Lead and contribute to research projects spanning data visualization, human-computer interaction, and human-centered AI.
• Coordinate scientific project activities, including planning, reporting, and coordination across collaborating partners.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to graduate and undergraduate students working on related research projects.
• Publish research findings in top-tier conferences and journals in computer science and related fields.
• Contribute to grant writing and securing funding for research initiatives.
• Participate in academic activities such as seminars, workshops, and conferences to stay abreast of the latest developments in the field.

Required Qualifications

• Ph.D. in computer science, informatics, or closely related fields (by the start date).
• Demonstrated expertise in data visualization, with a track record of designing and building visualization dashboards.
• Research experience in human-centered AI, or in the integration of AI and machine learning methods into interactive visualization and analysis systems.
• Strong background in web-based software development.
• Knowledge of data analytics techniques and tools, including machine learning and data visualization.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative research environment.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet project deadlines effectively.
• Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative in formulating and executing own research projects.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with generative AI agents applied to data analysis or visualization authoring.
• Scientific project management experience, including coordination of multi-partner research activities.
• Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS and Microsoft Azure).
• Experience with commercial business intelligence and visualization tools (e.g., Tableau and Microsoft Power BI).
