Postdoctoral Fellow – Yao Lab

Dr. Yaxing Yao is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral scholar to join his research on human-centered privacy and human-centered AI in the Department of Computer Science at Johns Hopkins University. The position is expected to start in Fall 2026.

This position will focus on exploring new research in AI governance, with a focus on privacy, security, and safety for users with diverse characteristics. The successful candidate will lead new research projects, participate in research grant writing, and assist in managing Dr. Yao's lab. This work is primarily conducted at the Homewood Campus in Baltimore. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in privacy and security, and Computer Science.

Applicants with strong credentials and motivation should still apply even if they lack these specific qualifications. These are full-time positions with an initial appointment of 12 months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding.

Qualification:

• PhD in Computer Science, Information Science, or a related field.
• Strong publication record in peer-reviewed venues (e.g., CHI, USENIX Security, IEEE Security & Privacy) relevant to privacy, security, or AI.
• Excellent teamwork skills for working in an interdisciplinary environment involving engineers, computer scientists, and designers.
• Technical expertise in programming
• Proficiency in designing and implementing AI models
• Strong understanding of AI Governance
• Ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, multi-lab environment.
• Ability to lead research projects independently from concept to implementation.
• Capability to formulate research methodologies and manage project timeline
