The Department of Biology, University of Oxford is seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) on a 20 months' project funded by a grant to Prof Filatov from the BBSRC. The project will focus on the analysis of sex chromosome evolution, but may also extend to evolution of other types of chromosomes (e.g. B-chromosomes) mainly in plants. The PDRA will be encouraged to collaborate on other related projects to help improve their publication record and maximize the chances of future employability in academia. The PDRA on this project will be responsible for lab work, data analysis and preparation of papers for publication. Most of the work in the project is expected to be computer-based, with the focus on evolutionary genetic analyses of genome and transcriptome sequence data.
Depending on PDRA's preference, the project could include molecular genetic and cytogenetic work; thus, experience in experimental plant molecular biology (in addition to essential evolutionary genetic and bioinformatic experience) will be an advantage. The applicants should have or be expected to soon obtain a PhD or equivalent and publication record in evolutionary genetics/genomics and molecular genetics. Significant experience in population genetic and genetic high throughput data analysis will be essential for this project. It will be advantageous for the successful applicant to have previous work experience related to chromosome evolution, especially to sex chromosome evolution.
The University of Oxford is committed to equal opportunity, and to being a place where everyone belongs and is supported to succeed. We recognise how the diversity of our community enriches our ability to deliver on our academic mission. We welcome applications from individuals from all backgrounds, including those under-represented within higher education. No applicant or members of staff shall be unlawfully discriminated against on the basis of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation.
