Postdoctoral Research Associate

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the Oxford Protein Informatics Group (OPIG) in the Department of Statistics at the University of Oxford. You will contribute to an exciting research programme focused on understanding and mitigating vaccine-induced immune thrombocytopenia with thrombosis (VITT). This CEPI-funded project is led by Prof. Dame Sarah Gilbert's group, working in collaboration with OPIG, which is internationally recognised for its research at the interface of immunoinformatics, protein structure, artificial intelligence, and computational biology.

You will be responsible for applying computational and bioinformatics approaches to investigate the mechanistic triggers of VITT and identify strategies to reduce associated risks. This will include analysing B-cell receptor (BCR) transcriptomics data from VITT cases and control groups, performing transcriptomic analyses to understand post-vaccination immune responses, and conducting structural analysis of antibody clones. You will manage your own research activities, coordinate project components to meet deadlines, and contribute to the development of new research ideas and methodologies. You will collaborate closely with experimental and computational researchers, contribute to the preparation of scientific publications, present research findings at conferences and meetings, and provide expertise and guidance on relevant computational approaches.

It is essential that you hold, or are close to completing, a doctorate/DPhil in a relevant field such as computational biology, biochemistry, structural biology, bioinformatics, statistics, machine learning, computer science, mathematics, or a related discipline. You should have demonstrated experience in Python programming and high-performance computing, together with experience in transcriptomics data analysis and computational biology. Excellent communication skills, the ability to develop new research ideas, and a collaborative approach to working across interdisciplinary teams are important for success in this role.
