About this role:
The Li-air battery represents a step-change in battery technology, with a theoretical energy up to ten times that of current lithium-ion cells. This role is part of an exciting project that brings together scientists and engineers to tackle the key challenges preventing commercialisation. As part of this collaborative project, you will carry out world-leading research on the synthesis and degradation routes of organic molecules in the lithium-air battery. The position will involve lab work in our recently furbished state-of-the-art laboratories, collaborating with other groups, presenting to key stakeholders and preparing manuscripts for publication. This full-time post, working 37.5 hours per week, is available on a fixed-term basis until 31 January 2028.
About the project:
This is a collaborative research project funded by the Ellison Institute of Technology. It brings together chemists, materials scientists and engineers to tackle the challenges preventing the commercialisation of the lithium-air battery. By understanding the processes and degradation mechanisms that occur in these cells, we seek to deliver advances that will take this promising technology to the next level.
About you:
We are looking to recruit an outstanding synthetic organic chemist. We are keen to hear from people with expertise in the design and execution of multi-step syntheses, a strong mechanistic understanding of organic reactivity, and experience in the analysis and characterisation of organic molecules. You will be a well-organised and self-motivated scientist who enjoys cutting edge research in a fast-paced and intellectually stimulating environment. The role requires a relevant PhD /DPhil (or close to completing), excellent communication skills and a desire to take this technology to the next level.
How to apply:
You will be required to upload your CV and a supporting statement. Your supporting statement should list each of the essential and desirable selection criteria, as listed in the job description, and explain how you meet each one. CVs alone will not be considered. Please do not attach any manuscripts, papers, transcripts, mark sheets or certificates as these will not be considered as part of your application. Only applications received online by 12.00 midday (BST) on Friday 11 September 2026 can be considered.
