The Kim Lab is seeking a highly motivated and creative Postdoctoral Fellow to join our team and advance our understanding of auditory function, hearing loss, and emerging inner ear therapeutics using cutting-edge in vivo approaches. Our lab has developed a unique experimental platform that enables real-time visualization and manipulation of cochlear cellular activity in living, hearing animals. By combining in vivo two-photon imaging, single-cell optogenetics, auditory physiology, and targeted inner ear drug and gene delivery, we investigate how sound is encoded and transformed from sensory hair cells to auditory neurons. Our research spans sensory coding, cochlear injury and repair, and the development of new approaches to study and treat hearing loss. Current projects explore how populations of hair cells encode sound, how sensory information is transformed into subtype-specific auditory nerve activity, and how drugs and therapeutic agents can be delivered to and monitored within the living inner ear. We are particularly interested in bridging advanced in vivo technologies with clinically relevant questions in hearing loss, otoprotection, and emerging inner ear therapeutics.
