Research Scientist Position at UQ's Frazer Institute

Join a world-leading immunology research environment at UQ's Frazer Institute and play a pivotal role in advancing our understanding of how transcriptional and metabolic programs shape immune cell function. Working within the internationally recognised Belz Research Group at the Translational Research Institute, you will lead innovative, high-impact research exploring innate immune cell differentiation and immune responses during pathogen challenge. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious researcher to drive discovery, contribute to translational outcomes, mentor emerging researchers, and collaborate within a visionary, inclusive and highly supportive team dedicated to creating meaningful scientific impact.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Research: Lead innovative research investigating the transcriptional and metabolic regulation of immune cells, design and conduct complex experimental studies, publish high-quality research outputs, contribute to competitive funding applications, and support the translation of research outcomes into real-world impact.
• Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise and mentor Honours and Higher Degree by Research students, foster researcher capability and skill development, facilitate engagement opportunities, and contribute to a collaborative and high-performing research environment.
• Project Leadership and Laboratory Operations: Drive the administration and coordination of research projects, oversee day-to-day research activities within the Belz Research Group, manage experimental workflows and data analysis, and maintain best-practice research methodologies and compliance standards.
• Citizenship and Service: Demonstrate leadership through mentoring and collaboration, contribute to internal committees and administrative activities, build partnerships with academic, industry and community stakeholders, support colleagues, and uphold University values and policies.

About You:

• Completion of a PhD in Immunology or a closely related discipline, with expertise in immune cell biology.
• A growing research profile demonstrated through publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national and international conferences.
• Experience in designing, conducting and analysing immunology research, including flow cytometry, molecular biology techniques, immunological assays and/or omics approaches.
• Demonstrated ability to contribute to competitive research funding applications and collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary research teams.
• Experience supervising, mentoring or supporting Honours and/or Higher Degree by Research students, with a commitment to researcher development.
• Excellent organisational, analytical and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and contribute positively to a collaborative research environment.
