Postdoctoral Research Fellow – Brennan Lab

Are you an ambitious neuroscientist ready to drive breakthroughs in spinal cord repair? We are seeking a dedicated Research Fellow (Level A) to lead cutting-edge, independent research investigating the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying spinal cord injury and recovery.

Operating within a highly collaborative and well-equipped environment, you will utilise advanced mouse models to solve complex biological questions, translate findings into high-quality publications, and help to shape the next generation of researchers.

As a vital member of our research team, you'll work under limited supervision to push the boundaries of spinal cord research. Your day will involve:

• Advanced preclinical research: Designing, executing, and analysing complex studies using mouse models of neurological injury.
• Surgical and laboratory excellence: Utilising aseptic techniques to perform sophisticated rodent surgeries (including vertebral laminectomy and experimental spinal cord injury) and advanced laboratory procedures.
• Scientific communication: Authoring high-impact peer-reviewed manuscripts and presenting findings at national and international conferences.
• Mentorship and collaboration: Providing expert advice to postgraduate students and collaborating collegially with laboratory personnel and the Principal Investigator.
• Academic contribution: Contributing occasionally to research-related teaching materials and participating in departmental committees and meetings.

We're looking for a rigorous, innovative researcher who possesses:

• Education: A PhD in experimental spinal cord injury research or an equivalent relevant discipline.
• Surgical and in vivo expertise: Proven proficiency in rodent surgical techniques (e.g., laminectomy, cardiac perfusion) and hands-on experience in mouse handling, husbandry, injections, and post-operative welfare monitoring.
• Track record of success: A documented history of refereed research publications and excellent analytical skills.
• Organisational prowess: Well-developed planning skills with the ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and solve complex problems innovatively.
• Exceptional communication: Strong verbal and written skills, with the ability to produce clear reports and maintain strict standards of confidentiality and data privacy.
• Tech know-how: High proficiency in standard software (Microsoft Office, data analysis tools) and a readiness to learn specialised University systems.

This is a research-only role designed to accelerate your academic career. You'll have the autonomy to develop your research expertise, access funds for professional conference travel, and work under the direct mentorship of an esteemed Associate Professor.
