The School of Population and Public Health (SPPH) is seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Fellow who will focus on the “Optimising STBBI health outcomes through precision health (OPTIMISE)” project, funded primarily by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). The OPTIMISE project aims to characterize syndemics of social conditions, sexually transmitted and bloodborne infections (STBBIs) and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) using syndemic and precision public health approaches. This project will use data from the BC Hepatitis Testers Cohort (BC-HTC) and IDEALs Cohorts- longitudinal cohorts of ~2.5 million people tested for HCV, HIV, HBV, or syphilis or diagnosed with HCV, HBV, HIV/AIDS or active TB linked with their healthcare data (medical visits, hospitalizations, prescription drugs) and registries (cancer, vital statistics, perinatal and chronic diseases) since 1992. The cohort and team have produced influential pieces of evidence that have shaped policy in British Columbia, Canada, and internationally.
The position will be located at the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC). BCCDC is the provincial public health service providing disease surveillance, detection, prevention, treatment, policy development and health promotion programming to promote and protect the health of British Columbians. We have a strong interdisciplinary group of epidemiologists, statisticians, infectious disease and public health physicians, mathematical modelers, and policymakers working in a data-rich environment with many learning and development opportunities. This position is a great learning opportunity for Hepatitis C surveillance, policy development and translation of research to inform policy and program. Besides involvement in research, the position also offers opportunities for teaching at SPPH.
