Join Dr. Silvia Maioli's laboratory at the Division of Neurogeriatrics, Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences, and Society, Karolinska Institutet. Our research focuses on uncovering the molecular mechanisms underlying risk factors for neurodegenerative diseases, with a particular emphasis on sex differences, the menopausal transition, and the role of cholesterol metabolism and transport in Alzheimer's disease. Located at BioClinicum, Solna Campus, our lab offers a stimulating, supportive, and interdisciplinary scientific environment with access to state-of-the-art facilities and opportunities for professional growth.
The position is a fixed-term employment for two years, with the possibility of extension.
As a postdoctoral researcher, you will lead innovative research projects to elucidate the role of brain cholesterol metabolism and transport in male and female mouse models of Alzheimer's disease pathology. Your work will involve both pharmacological and genetic manipulations, including surgical procedures for viral vector-mediated gene expression, behavioral assays (both standard and automated, such as Intellicage systems), immunohistochemistry, molecular techniques, and analysis of transcriptomic and lipidomic data. In-depth molecular mechanisms will also be studied in in vitro systems.
To be eligible for employment as a postdoctoral researcher, a PhD or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish PhD is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. Completion of your doctoral degree within the last three years is considered an advantage. If there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.
The ideal candidate holds a Ph.D., preferably in neurophysiology or neuroendocrinology, has a strong scientific output and publication record from the PhD, and demonstrates extensive training and expertise in in vivo mouse procedures. This includes mouse behavioral testing, molecular and cellular biology techniques (immunofluorescence, confocal microscopy, western blot). Excellent organizational abilities, a strong ability to handle transgenic mouse lines, English communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative research environment, are also essential.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated, and highly motivated researcher who thrives in a collaborative team setting, is open to multidisciplinary interactions, and is willing to mentor master's and PhD students. If you are passionate about advancing our understanding of neurodegenerative diseases, we encourage you to apply.
