Radcliffe Department of Medicine, MRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine, John Radcliffe Hospital, Headington, Oxford
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the research group led by Dr Abdullah Khan at the MRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine. Dr Khan's group develops and applies human organoid and multi-organoid microphysiological ('organ-on-chip') systems to investigate the basic processes of blood and immune cell production, and how these are perturbed in ageing and disease.
The project combines iPSC and organoid culture with high-dimensional readouts including multi-parameter flow cytometry, single-cell and spatial transcriptomics, and quantitative imaging. Working closely with other postdoctoral researchers and PhD students, the post-holder will deliver translational projects that characterise laboratory-engineered, iPSC-derived immune cells as they mature, and apply these cells within organoid and multi-organoid chip platforms to test and refine candidate therapies.
You will hold, or be close to completion of, a PhD/DPhil in a relevant area of the life sciences and have a strong publication record. You will bring broad experience in molecular and cellular biology, including standard techniques for nucleic acid and protein analysis, together with demonstrable hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture and multi-parameter flow cytometry. You will be able to manage your own research, work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, and communicate your findings clearly. Experience with iPSC culture, organoid or other 3D model systems, organ-on-chip or microfluidic platforms, and single-cell or spatial omics technologies is desirable. A background in immunology—particularly in haematopoietic, myeloid, or innate immune cell biology—as well as developmental biology, especially haematopoiesis and early lymphopoiesis, would be advantageous.
The post is available on a full-time basis and is fixed-term for 2 years, funded by the Wellcome.
Applications for this vacancy are to be made online. You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your online application. The closing date for this position is 12:00 noon on 19 June 2026.
