Postdoctoral Senior Scientist

At our Ludwigshafen site, the position of Postdoctoral Senior Scientist is part of Product Development, Science and Technology (PDS&T). PDS&T drives the development of assets that have demonstrated promise in early clinical studies and also supports products that are already on the market. In this role, you will make an important contribution to the scientific evaluation and further development of innovative drug product concepts for biologics, with a focus on parenteral formulations and manufacturing.

Several innovative concepts for drug product design are currently being investigated. These require sound scientific evaluation and a clear study plan to enable robust product development. For this position, we are seeking a highly motivated scientific professional with strong analytical thinking, technological expertise, and a hands-on approach. You will plan, conduct, and evaluate studies to identify key risks and mechanisms involved in the co-formulation of biologics during drug development and manufacturing. This includes defined manufacturing steps and in-process controls to establish a modern, compliant, and robust control strategy while maintaining maximum flexibility.

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct systematic studies to advance innovative formulation concepts for biological medicinal products.
• Publish results in recognized scientific journals and present work to internal committees and at scientific conferences, in alignment with business requirements.
• Collaborate with international, multidisciplinary teams to achieve project objectives.
• Contribute to investigations and root-cause analyses in scientific development projects.
• Demonstrate a high level of accountability in adhering to scientific standards and safe laboratory practices.
• Ensure high productivity in the laboratory environment. Proactively contribute new insights from the literature and integrate them into individual projects as well as the overall program.

Qualifications

• PhD in pharmaceutical technology, biochemistry, or a related discipline, ideally with experience in the processing of parenteral/biological products or a similar field.
• Professional experience with analytical methods for biologics is an advantage. Knowledge of aseptic techniques.
• Affinity for hands-on work with complex equipment and for solving technical problems.
• Very good written and spoken English skills. German language skills are a strong advantage.
• Demonstrated scientific initiative and creativity in research or development activities.
• Ability to independently plan and conduct experiments, perform statistical analyses, interpret data, and derive appropriate follow-up activities.

Where We Work

Role is exclusively performed at a site or office and onsite presence is required. Employees who are site/office-based and can occasionally perform their role virtually work both in the office and remotely*, following the policies and regulations in place at their location. US Employees must be in the office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with flexibility to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays. Three days in the office is the minimum; some individuals or teams may require more in-office days due to meetings, business/project needs or their role.
