Applications are invited for a Social Scientist with excellent knowledge of qualitative data collection and analysis methods to work with Dr Charlotte Albury on an NIHR SPCR-funded trial aiming to increase flu vaccination rates in adults. The purpose of this role is to work on the qualitative process evaluation to understand patients' and practitioners' experiences of the trial; and to generate learning for subsequent implementation.
The role is embedded within the Communication and Language in Healthcare team, part of the thriving Health Behaviours theme in the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences (NDPCHS). The health behaviours theme focusses on interventions to prevent or treat ill-health, including a focus on diet, obesity, and smoking. The growing Communication and Language in Healthcare team, led by Associate Professor Charlotte Albury sits within this wider theme. The team aims to understand health communication and has a strong track record of applied research that can benefit patients and lead to changes in guidance and practice. We engage with a wide range of stakeholders and policymakers to facilitate the translation of research into practice.
The successful applicant will have excellent knowledge of qualitative data collection and analysis methods, and knowledge of clinical trial process evaluations. Responsibilities will include carrying out the trial process evaluation, including undertaking a variety of qualitative data analysis methods including thematic analysis, and content analysis. You will also be responsible for conducting interviews and focus groups with patients and professionals, triangulating data and writing up reports, papers and blogs for the study.
You will hold a PhD/DPhil in the field of social sciences or clinical trial process evaluations (or be about to obtain one in the next few months), and have qualitative experience including knowledge of process evaluations. You will be based in the Radcliffe Primary Care Building or Gibson Building of the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, Radcliffe Primary Care Building, Woodstock Road, Oxford, OX2 6GG as your normal place of work but there may be the opportunity for occasional remote working.
