Professor/ Associate Professor in Public Health Services Innovation

The Department of Public Health at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Aarhus University, invites applications for a position at the level of full Professor or Associate Professor. The expected start date is January 1st 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a full-time permanent position.

The candidate will contribute to the Faculty of Health Sciences' strategic priorities within innovation and collaboration by building innovation capacity and developing collaboration with external parties. The candidate will be part of an innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem at Aarhus University (AU). AU is currently strengthening its strategic efforts within innovation and entrepreneurship. This effort is a direct extension of AU's Strategy 2030, in which research-based innovation and entrepreneurship constitute a central strategic focus area. With the aim of expanding AU's capacity to link research and innovation, the university leadership has decided to create a number of new research and innovation positions across the university. The newly created positions are intended to help integrate an innovation mindset into the university culture, while at the same time producing concrete, visible impact and societal benefit.

About the Department

The Department of Public Health is research-intensive and has a strong international and collaborative orientation. Our research spans theoretical, basic, and applied sciences, with the goal of generating impactful knowledge and improving population health. We are built on a foundation of academic excellence, and we are committed to conducting rigorous, innovative, high-quality teaching. The department is responsible for teaching at public health science, sports science, nursing science, health science, and for a significant part of teaching in the medicine program.

Your job responsibilities

The successful candidate will strengthen the department's research, innovation and research-based teaching within health services research and contribute to the academic development at Aarhus University and to the university's profile both nationally and internationally.

Your main tasks are expected to include:

• Actively contribute to the faculty community and support the faculty´s ambitions for innovation and collaboration.
• Lead your own innovation projects and facilitate the translation of research findings into practical solutions.
• Identify innovation potential within the research environments.
• Expanding your research activities by securing external funding and thus contributing to the department's strategic goals.
• Increase local awareness and visibility of innovation initiatives.
• Implement initiatives decided by the faculty leadership and the dean's office.
• Teaching and supervising students within innovation
• Supervising PhD students
• Participating in academic assessment and committee work at Aarhus University.
• Disseminating your research to both academic and broader audiences

You will report to the Head of Department Michael Baggesen Klitgaard.

Your competences

You have established yourself as a prominent researcher within your scientific field and can document research and teaching qualifications at a high international level. You have a network of international partners, experience in attracting significant research funding from national and international funding bodies, and a potential of becoming a skilled research leader. In the hiring process, we place particular emphasis on professional experience gained through employment or extended research stays at internationally recognized universities or research institutions outside the candidate's primary place of employment.

We particularly value documented experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Public Health services research
• Artificial intelligence, machine learning, or advanced analytics in healthcare
• Health economic, public health policy, and leadership in healthcare organizations
• Digital transformation and applied data driven decision making in public health organizations
• Cross-sectoral collaboration across health organizations
• A strong record of securing external funding for interdisciplinary and collaborative research projects

The successful candidate has a strong international network and demonstrated experience in interdisciplinary collaboration across health services research, digital health and leadership.

We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English. International applicants are expected to learn Danish, and Aarhus University arranges Danish teaching.

Terms of employment – professor

• In making the appointment, emphasis will be placed on a high degree of original production at an international level and experience from teaching at different levels as well as contributions to the development of teaching activities and teaching material, hereby documenting that the applicant has developed the academic discipline from a research and teaching perspective.

• Moreover, there will be an assessment of the applicant's ability to perform research and teaching management tasks.

• The yearly base salary for a fulltime professor is DKK 866.461,38 (including a position related supplement, a pre-agreed professor supplement and pension (18.07%)). Additional supplement(s) can be negotiated dependent on experience, special qualifications and performance of special functions. Professors have the authority to negotiate pay on their own behalf.

Terms of employment – associate professor

• Appointment as an associate professor requires research and teaching qualifications at the level that can be achieved through the satisfactory completion of a period of appointment as an assistant professor, but may also be obtained in other ways.

• The applicant is required to have completed a university pedagogical programme or an equivalent programme.

• The yearly base salary for a fulltime associate professor is DKK 706.233,06 (including a position related supplement, a pre-agreed associate professor supplememt and pension (18.07%)). Additional supplement(s) can be negotiated dependent on experience, special qualifications and performance of special functions. Authorisation supplement(s) will be granted, if relevant for the position. Your local eligible trade union representative at Aarhus University negotiates your salary on your behalf.

• The appointment is in accordance with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (Akademikerne).

• Remuneration is in accordance with the above, and the Salary agreement catalogue for staff at Health.

• Researchers recruited from abroad are offered a special researcher tax scheme with a lower tax rate.

• Travel and moving expenses may be covered according to the employee in question and, to a limited extent, the accompanying family.
