The Department of Clinical and Movement Neurosciences at UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology is a world-leading centre for research into movement, movement disorders and neurological disease. Bringing together clinical and basic neuroscience, the Department uses advanced imaging, computational, cellular and molecular approaches to understand brain function and develop new approaches to neurological disorders.
With strong links across UCL, the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and the Royal Free London, we offer a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary research environment with excellent facilities and opportunities for impactful translational research.
We are seeking a Project Manager to join a newly funded international research programme supported by Aligning Science Across Parkinson's (ASAP). The programme brings together researchers from five leading institutions: the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Van Andel Institute, University College London, the University of Cambridge, and the University of Manchester.
The project will investigate the structure, composition and biological behaviour of alpha-synuclein filaments across Parkinson's disease, Parkinson's disease dementia, dementia with Lewy bodies, multiple system atrophy and related neurodegenerative conditions. Using a range of cutting-edge approaches, including cryo-electron microscopy, mass spectrometry, biochemical assays, cell models, human organoids, and mouse models, the team will explore how different filament structures arise and whether they can drive disease-associated pathology.
You will coordinate the day-to-day delivery of this multidisciplinary programme, working closely with researchers across the partner institutions. You will coordinate meetings and milestones, support project reporting and facilitate the exchange of samples, protocols and data between teams. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to research data generation and analysis, as well as the preparation of presentations and scientific manuscripts.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a central role in a collaborative, international programme addressing important questions in Parkinson's disease and related neurodegenerative disorders.
The post is available immediately and funded by ASAP to 31 May 2029 in the first instance.
You will have a postgraduate qualification and/or research experience in neuroscience, neurodegeneration or a related biomedical discipline and experience of managing and coordinating complex research projects or programmes, with the ability to work effectively across multiple teams and institutions. You will have excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, and be proactive and resourceful, with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage competing priorities, monitor progress, and deliver to deadlines. An interest in research and a commitment to supporting high-quality research are essential.
This role meets the eligibility requirements for a skilled worker certificate of sponsorship or a global talent visa under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore, UCL welcomes applications from international applicants who require a visa.
