Research Assistant

The main purpose of this position is to be an active member of the Brodsky lab research team and enable research by others. The focus of the research is to characterise the role of clathrin proteins in neurological and metabolic disease pathways, through biochemical and genetic analysis. The post holder will be expected to assist with experimental design and interpretation of results and take responsibility for projects assigned, working as independently as possible. The postholder will be expected to have had experience working as a member of a laboratory team and contributing to a research project in molecular cell biology.

Interview Date(s) are scheduled for 01-03 September, exact timings to be confirmed. This is a fixed-term role until 31 March 2028. The salary range is for Grade 6B on UCL salary scales and final salary will depend on the successful applicant's years of experience. This appointment is subject to UCL Terms and Conditions of Service for Research and Professional Services Staff. This role does not meet the eligibility requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa certificate of sponsorship under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore UCL will not be able to sponsor individuals who require right to work in the UK to carry out this role.

You must have an undergraduate degree and preferably a Masters degree in a subject related to biochemistry and molecular cell biology. Previous research experience in a laboratory is essential. Familiarity with and understanding the principles of basic techniques such as molecular cloning, gel electrophoresis, Western blotting, protein purification, cell culture and confocal microscopy is required, as these techniques will be used on a routine basis.
