Job Description

Location – This role is in-person at North Campus Edmonton.

The Research Assistant is responsible for assisting and supporting the Principal Investigator (Pl) in the overall operation of the research/project study. Duties include/but are not limited to:

• Data collection, analysis, and development of datasets for energy modelling.
• Research on finding methodologies to project energy and supply over long term considering macro-economic variables.
• Development of artificial intelligence (Al)-based models for projection of energy demand and supply.
• Assisting in providing data for various greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation options and development of cost curves.
• Preparation of reports and presentations on the progress of established goals to the Technical Advisory Committee, NSERC Alliance Grant Program and NRCan's Energy Innovation Program.
• Keep up with the advancement and evolution of technology projection models by obtaining and analyzing the latest papers and information on the topic.

Responsibilities

Energy modelling: 60%

• Assists in upcoming research topics related to energy demand and supply projection and Al integration such as documents, data collection, excel sheets, and operation manuals.
• Data collection, analysis, and process modeling of energy conversion processes and GHGmitigation.
• Update energy planning and forecasting models previously developed in the team.
• Carries out a literature review of various studies available and develops future projections for improvement in energy forecasting and planning.
• Develop Al based models for improving the energy efficiency of energy conversion pathways

Report/Paper writing: 25%

• Preparation of reports, posters and presentations on existing work and progress on energy modelling work to the Technical Advisory Committee, NSERC Alliance Grant Program and NRCan's Energy Innovation Program
• Prioritizes studies and associated materials according to specific deadlines
• Writes paper to publish the results of research work

3. Administrative work: 15%

• Participates in meetings to discuss new and established projects, abstract deadlines, grants, awards, and publications
• Travels for conferences/meetings pertaining to research clinic occasionally
• Provides updates and recommendations to Pl on study as necessary
• Liaises with the Pl and other staff to give/receive information

Qualifications

• Engineering student with extensive experience or related discipline
• Knowledge in energy modelling and forecasting using Al
• Experience in energy forecasting and planning
• Experience in handling large energy and environmental datasets is an asset
