Do you want to contribute to improving human health?
The Department of Global Public Health is a multidisciplinary department with the aim to advance knowledge about challenges and opportunities for public health in a local, national, and global setting. Many researchers at the department are scientific advisors to authorities and other decision makers at regional, national, and international levels. The department is responsible for three international master's programmes and the researchers are actively involved in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The department has 12 research groups, around 120 PhD students and about 140 employees.
The position is placed in the Climate Extremes & Population Health team in PRIME (Prevention, Intervention and Mechanisms in Public Health) research group. We lead major national and international projects on how climate extremes affect population health, focusing on three key areas: vulnerability, adaptation and future risks.
We are looking for 1-2 research assistants at 100% full-time equivalent (FTE) for twelve months. As part of our team, you will contribute to research aimed at quantifying the health impacts of climatic factors and climate extremes, and at advancing attribution approaches to estimate the fraction of the observed burden that is attributable to anthropogenic climate change. The role will involve the analysis of large-scale linked health, environmental, and climatic datasets, including the estimation of exposure-response relationships and the integration of these with climate-based attribution frameworks comparing factual and counterfactual conditions. This includes supporting work that combines epidemiological modelling with climate information to assess how changes in the probability, intensity, or co-occurrence of climatic hazards translate into changes in population health burden. The postholder will also contribute to the development of advanced statistical methods, reproducible programming workflows, and scientific manuscripts. The position will include affiliation with the Swedish Centre for Impacts of Climate Extremes and will be in collaboration with Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS), France and the University of Bern.
