Your mission
We are looking for a research assistant to join our research team and collaborate with PhD students, postdocs, and senior researchers on deciphering multiple sclerosis pathogenesis. While working within a multidisciplinary team, you will benefit from the close supervision of our senior molecular biologist, Dr. Majid Pahlevan Kakhki. Your primary research focus will be to address the genetic bases and molecular mechanisms underlying immune and nervous dysfunction in MS disease. You will study this by conducting advanced molecular biology methods in various cutting-edge cellular models and performing in-depth analysis of various omics data types. The successful candidate is expected to interact with internal and external collaborators and to contribute to the efficient functioning of the unit.
Your profile
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate who shares our passion for translational research and (epi)genomics. It is required to have a bachelor's degree and meritorious if you have a master's degree or are currently studying for a master's degree in science.
Absolute Requirements
- A strong scientific and/or research background in human disease, with particular emphasis on immune mechanisms underlying autoimmunity and neural processes involved in brain disorders.
- In-depth knowledge of gene regulatory mechanisms and epigenetics, including DNA methylation and non-coding RNAs.
- Demonstrated expertise in molecular biology and functional genomics techniques, along with associated data analysis (e.g., CRISPR-based approaches, epigenome editing, massively parallel reporter assays, lentiviral transduction, immunoblotting, and microscopy).
- Proven experience in the handling, culture, and characterization of immune and central nervous system (CNS) primary cells and cell lines, including isolation, transformation, transduction, and flow cytometry (FACS).
- Advanced proficiency in both oral and written English.
Preferred Requirements
- Theoretical and practical knowledge of multiple sclerosis disease.
- Skills in data analysis and research documentation (i.e. ImageJ, FlowJo, Coding)
- Experience of working in a BSL2 lab.
- Ability to work independently as well as in collaboration with colleagues and students, especially in an international environment.
- Written communication skills, supported by academic writing experience and research output
