Research Assistant in Neuroscience

The Lopez laboratory, in the Department of Neuroscience at Karolinska Institutet, has an open position for a Research Assistant to investigate the molecular mechanisms and complex social behaviors associated with rapid-acting antidepressant treatments. The project involves the implementation of animal models of stress and anxiety and requires the analysis of multimodal high-throughput molecular and behavioral data, to deconstruct the underlying mechanisms responsible for antidepressant treatment response.

Your mission

We are looking for highly motivated candidates to join our team and work with laboratory animals (mice). Suitable applicants should:

1. The candidate should possess FELASA-certified knowledge and skills.
2. Possess hands-on experience with laboratory mice and animal models of stress and anxiety.
3. Previous hands-on experience with the analysis of automatic behavioral tracking or pose estimation tools (e.g., DeepLabCut, or SLEAP), is a plus.
4. Experience in neuroendocrinology and pharmacology is a plus.
5. Experience in molecular biology techniques (DNA/RNA extraction, qPCR, genotyping, etc).
6. Experience with immunohistochemistry and other labeling techniques (Golgi, Nissl Staining, etc).
7. Advanced experience with microscopy techniques (confocal and fluorescence), as well as neuronal and cellular tracing techniques is required.
8. Demonstrate hands-on expertise with cryosectioning and brain dissection techniques.
9. Have advanced computational skills with proficiency in Python or R.
10. Be experienced in processing and analyzing NGS sequencing data (bulk mRNA).
11. Hands-on experience with single-cell RNA-seq and spatial transcriptomics data analysis is a plus
12. Candidates with knowledge or experience in machine learning methods will be prioritized.

Your profile

Qualified to be employed as a research assistant is one who has obtained at least a Bachelor's degree in neuroscience, psychology, pharmacology, or any related field. It is considered as an advantage if you have already completed your Master's degree.
